Rosana Álvarez

The scientific career of Dr. Álvarez began in the field of the synthesis of biologically active polyenes under the supervision of Ángel R. de Lera (University of Vigo) and Susana López (University of Santiago de Compostela), in order to develop stereoselective syntheses of polyenes of high instability, bases on reactions catalyzed by palladium, to later study its interaction with different receptors of this family. Her work in this field allowed her to interact with collaborators from other areas. Later, she moved to the University of Paris Sud XI, where under the direction of Dr DAngelo, she carried out a study of Michael´s reaction with catalysts supported as part of a European project. At the end of her postdoctoral stay, she returned to the University of Vigo as a visiting researcher, associate professor and Ramón y Cajal contracts. During these years, she achieved the national qualification test (LOU 6/2001), which allows her incorporation as assistant Professor of University of Vigo (January 2006), and later in 2011, she became to Full Professor.

Along her career, she had showed a great versatility and interest in different fields as organometallic chemistry, total synthesis of natural products, computational study of organic chemistry mechanism, polyene synthesis (as retinoids, carotenoids or macrolactams), the synthesis of molecule with interesting biological activities and study their interactions with different receptors (nuclear recectors and epigenetic enzymes), methodology based on reactions catalyzed by transition metals and others.
